To implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instruction on making excellent traditional culture popular around the world and to let international students feel the charm of traditional Chinese medicine, the School of International Education (SIE) arranged for over 100 international students from more than 30 countries to visit and study at the Guangzhou Shennong Caotang Museum on May 16 and May 23, 2019, respectively.
SIE's teachers acted as English-speaking guides, introducing the origin of the Chinese nation right from Hetu Luoshu and explaining the headspring and development of traditional Chinese medicine through the ancient tale of Emperor Yan’s tasting a variety of herbs. And then the students learned about the custom of and cause for Cantonese drinking herbal tea at the Lingnan Exhibition Hall and about GE Hong’s Elbow Backup Emergency (Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang) as well as Tu Youyou’s discovery of arteannuin at Tu Youyou Exhibition Hall. The visit took about three hours. However, the international students were still longing for more, deeply impressed by the vastness and profundity of traditional Chinese medicine culture and hoping to have more opportunities to learn from the excellent traditional Chinese culture.
