On September 25, the Opening Ceremony for 2018 International Students of School of International Education (SIE) was held in Classroom 208, First Teaching  Building of the main campus. Luo Shaoming, President of GPNU as well as responsible persons and teachers from International Communication and Cooperation Department, the Postgraduate Department, School of Computer Science and Technology, School of Education Science and Technology, School of Finance and Economics, School of Management and SIE attended the ceremony. The principal of SIE presided over the ceremony.

Luo Shaoming gave a speech on behalf of the SIE, warmly welcomed over 200 overseas students from more than 30 countries, and sincerely congratulated the first international students for Master’s Degree in education of Year 2018, which was also an important presentation of the improvement of the University’s internationalized education level. Luo Shaoming introduced Xi Jinping’s thoughts of great-power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in new era and the international influence of “the Belt and Road” Initiative advocacy, and introduced the basic information about SIE and the summary of international education. Luo Shaoming expected that the international students could abide by Chinese laws and regulations, respect the differences in system, cultural background and historical development; study hard, learn from books, the society, the teachers with lofty ethic and academic quality and the students that are good in both morality and studies; actively integrate into the Chinese society, participate in the cultural activities of SIE, deeply understand the Chinese customs meanwhile introducing their own culture to teachers and students, trying to become the bridge for the economic and cultural exchange between China and other countries and become the participant and practicer of Sino-foreign cooperation and development.

Yan Liqian from School  of Finance and Economics made a speech on behalf of the teachers. She encouraged the new students to adapt the college life as soon as possible, correct the studying attitude, grasp scientific studying methods and improve self-discipline ability, so as to train themselves to a contemporary college student with high comprehensive qualification and the ability of life-long education.

Remy, a French student majoring in International Business of Year 2015 made a statement on behalf of the junior students. He shared his studying methods and feelings to the freshmen through his experience of acquiring HSK-6 Certificate, the highest level examination in Mandarin, and wining the Guangdong Government Scholarship for Foreign Students in Guangdong for three consecutive years.

Loemaise, a student for Master’s Degree in education of 2018 from Congo Republic made a speech on behalf of the freshmen. Starting from his experience in studies and working, he requested the students to abide by Chinese laws and regulations, comply with the teachers’ inculcation, study hard, unite students, not to leave any regret in the youth.

It was heard that the scale of international students of SIE was further expanded. The first Master’s Degree candidates have been recruited, and such undergraduate majors as Business Administration and Finance have been added. 161 international students for degree program have been newly recruited, together with 65 students for Chinese language acquisition.
