In order to broaden the international horizons of our students and enhance their cross-cultural understanding and communication skills, on March 14th, the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, in collaboration with the International Education College, invited Professor Ruth Brooks, Dean of the Business School at the University of Huddersfield in the UK, to visit our Baiyun campus and deliver a lecture themed "Cross-cultural Management for Studying in the UK."
Professor Brooks began by introducing to the students the geographical location, educational philosophy, professional settings, and outstanding achievements of the University of Huddersfield. Subsequently, she showcased the cultural characteristics of the UK and the cultural differences between China and the UK, including comparisons of the two countries' food culture and teaching methods. Professor Brooks advised the students to actively understand and experience international multiculturalism, enhancing their cross-cultural communication and adaptability skills. She then delved into the "soft power" and "hard power" required for foreign students studying in the UK, providing detailed explanations and expressing her hope that students would embrace challenges, broaden their horizons, and actively improve themselves during their university years.
This lecture provided our students with a deeper understanding of British culture and the culture of the University of Huddersfield, creating more opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and providing valuable references for our students in planning their academic careers.
