To foster collaboration between our university and Massey University in New Zealand and enhance international class students’ understanding of Massey University, the School of International Education invited ‌Dr. Jeffrey Stangl‌, Director of International and Strategic Partnerships at Massey University Business School and Executive Director of the CFA Society New Zealand, to deliver a study abroad guidance session for international students on the morning of November 5. The event was chaired by ‌Yu Zhong’en‌, Secretary of the School of International Education.

Dr. Stangl began the session with a lively introduction to New Zealand’s geographical environment and cultural background, highlighting the unique educational strengths of Massey University Business School. He emphasized that the school prioritizes cultivating students’ ‌critical thinking and problem-solving skills‌ over rote textbook learning, aiming to “teach how to fish rather than give a fish” and empower students to break free from traditional academic constraints to better meet future career challenges.

A Stanford University graduate with ‌25 years of experience in innovative enterprises‌, Dr. Stangl specializes in business development and financial management. As a scholar, his research focuses on international business and investment, particularly financial literacy and investor education. He has served as a judge for multiple U.S. business investment competition shows. Drawing from his transition from a business leader to an academic, Dr. Stangl encouraged students to actively develop their ‌social and interpersonal skills‌ during university. He stressed that ‌diverse learning experiences‌ expand career possibilities, while knowledge exchange, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to lifelong learning are keys to success.

To conclude, Dr. Stangl screened a promotional video showcasing Massey University’s academic resources and New Zealand’s lifestyle, further sparking students’ interest in studying abroad.

After the session, Dr. Stangl engaged in in-depth discussions with students interested in Massey University’s programs, addressing detailed questions about ‌program selection, language requirements, and cultural adaptation‌.

This guidance session provided students with a ‌comprehensive and clearer understanding‌ of Massey University’s strengths and study abroad processes, offering valuable insights for future academic planning.
