On the afternoon of April 2, Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University (GPNU) convened a seminar on advancing the high-quality development of its Sino-Foreign Joint Education (International Class) programs at Room 605, Industrial Training Center, East Campus. The event aimed to address current challenges in international class operations, explore effective strategies to enhance educational quality, and promote the steady growth of the university’s global education initiatives. Vice President ‌Xu Ling‌ attended the meeting, alongside deans, academic program directors from relevant colleges, and heads of university administrative departments.

In her remarks, Vice President Xu acknowledged the achievements made in cultivating international talents and expressed appreciation for the efforts of all stakeholders. She encouraged participants to ‌“leverage multi-department collaboration and cross-school coordination”‌ to invigorate the programs, foster globally competitive graduates, and build a distinctive, high-quality international education brand for GPNU. Xu outlined three priorities for the programs:

‌Optimize academic offerings‌ by aligning the university’s strengths with partner institutions abroad and establishing a dynamic evaluation and adjustment mechanism.

‌Strengthen students’ language proficiency‌ through enhanced IELTS training and flexible adjustments to internships and curricula.

‌Expand international partnerships‌ by proactively engaging overseas universities to establish a ‌“1+N” regularized exchange and cooperation framework‌.

Xu also provided specific guidance on hiring foreign faculty and improving internship and career support for international class students.

Since its launch in 2022, the International Class program is approaching a critical juncture as its first cohort prepares for overseas studies. Collaborative efforts across admissions, program development, and academic management are urgently needed. During the seminar, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as ‌credit transfer and course equivalency recognition, student management, curriculum design, and internship guidance‌, proposing actionable measures to address these challenges.
